Full-Time Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
ProCare Therapy is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join our team in Rockford, IL for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. As a TVI, you will play a crucial role in providing specialized instruction and support to visually impaired students within the school district.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to visually impaired students, ensuring access to the curriculum and facilitating their academic progress.
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine individualized educational plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to develop and implement appropriate instructional strategies and accommodations.
- Utilize a variety of instructional techniques, materials, and technologies to enhance students' learning experiences.
- Teach Braille, assistive technology, and independent living skills to students as needed.
- Adapt and modify educational materials to meet the unique needs of visually impaired students.
- Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and prepare comprehensive reports for IEP meetings and other relevant stakeholders.
- Provide consultation and support to school staff regarding strategies for working with visually impaired students.
- Stay updated with current trends, research, and best practices in the field of visual impairment education.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Visual Impairments, or a related field.
- Valid Illinois Teaching License with endorsement in Visual Impairments.
- Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) in the state of Illinois.
- Previous experience working with visually impaired students is preferred.
- Familiarity with Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and parents.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proactive, flexible, and able to adapt to changing student needs and educational environments.
Contract Details: This is a full-time position contracted through ProCare Therapy for the 2023-2024 school year. Compensation and benefits packages will be discussed during the interview process.
