Position Title: Orientation and Mobility Specialist (School Setting)- Caseload: 20 HS Students. 

Job Summary:
The Orientation and Mobility Specialist is responsible for providing instruction and support to individuals with visual impairments to enhance their ability to move safely and independently in various environments. This position involves assessing clients' orientation and mobility needs, developing personalized instruction plans, and implementing strategies to improve orientation skills, mobility techniques, and spatial awareness. The specialist works collaboratively with clients, families, educators, and other professionals to promote inclusive and accessible environments for individuals with visual impairments.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' orientation and mobility skills, including mobility devices and assistive technology needs.
2. Develop individualized orientation and mobility instruction plans based on assessment findings, client goals, and functional needs.
3. Provide direct instruction and training to clients on orientation techniques, spatial concepts, sensory awareness, and mobility skills both indoors and outdoors.
4. Collaborate with clients' educational teams, families, and other professionals to ensure continuity of services and support in various settings.
5. Monitor clients' progress and make adjustments to instruction plans as needed to meet evolving needs and goals.
6. Advocate for accessible environments and accommodations to promote independence and inclusion for individuals with visual impairments.
7. Stay current with emerging trends, research, and best practices in orientation and mobility instruction and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
8. Maintain accurate documentation of client progress, instructional activities, and communication with stakeholders.
9. Participate in professional development activities, conferences, and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in the field of orientation and mobility.
10. Adhere to ethical standards and guidelines established by relevant professional organizations, such as the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER) and the National Blindness Professional Certification Board (NBPCB).

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility, Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field.
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist by the National Blindness Professional Certification Board (NBPB) or eligibility for certification.
- Experience working with individuals with visual impairments, preferably in a school or rehabilitation setting.
- Strong knowledge of orientation and mobility principles, techniques, and instructional strategies.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse learning styles and needs.
- Proficiency in using mobility devices, orientation aids, and assistive technology.
- Commitment to promoting independence, accessibility, and inclusion for individuals with visual impairments.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to client locations as needed.
