Position Overview: As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Phoenix, Arizona, you will play a vital role in providing specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, helping them achieve academic success and independence. You will collaborate with educators, families, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized educational plans that meet the unique needs of each student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate students' visual functioning and educational needs
  • Develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) that address students' academic, functional, and social-emotional goals
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students in areas such as braille literacy, orientation and mobility, assistive technology, and independent living skills
  • Adapt and modify curriculum materials and instructional strategies to accommodate students' visual impairments and learning styles
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to ensure the integration of students with visual impairments into the general education environment
  • Provide consultation, training, and support to school staff, families, and community members on best practices for supporting students with visual impairments
  • Monitor students' progress, collect data, and adjust instruction as needed to maximize learning outcomes
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, parent conferences, and professional development activities to enhance service delivery and collaboration
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student assessments, progress reports, and instructional materials

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or related field
  • Valid teaching license or certification in Visual Impairment from the state of Arizona
  • Certification in Unified English Braille (UEB) preferred
  • Minimum of one year of experience working as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in an educational setting
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines related to the education of students with visual impairments
  • Familiarity with braille transcription, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment for students with visual impairments
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, educators, and other stakeholders
  • Commitment to providing high-quality, student-centered services in a culturally responsive manner
