About the Position:
Soliant is seeking a passionate and experienced Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join our team in Washington, DC. Position Overview:
As a TVI with Soliant in Washington, DC, you will be responsible for delivering specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, ensuring they have access to the curriculum and can achieve their full potential. You will work closely with students, parents, and school staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs. Your role will be crucial in helping students develop the skills necessary for academic success and independence.
In this role, you will also have the opportunity to engage in community outreach and advocacy, promoting awareness and understanding of visual impairments. You will be instrumental in creating an inclusive environment within the school, where students feel empowered and supported. Additionally, you will be encouraged to innovate and utilize the latest educational technologies and resources to enhance your teaching practices and better serve your students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments in various settings, including one-on-one and small group sessions.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with other educators and specialists.
  • Assess students' abilities and progress regularly, adjusting teaching strategies as needed.
  • Utilize specialized materials and technology to support students' learning and access to the curriculum.
  • Provide training and support to school staff and parents on strategies to support students with visual impairments.
  • Advocate for the needs and rights of students with visual impairments within the school community.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of students' progress and performance.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices and advancements in the field of visual impairment education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education for the Visually Impaired or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired.
  • Experience working with students with visual impairments in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and other resources for visually impaired students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
