Teacher of the Visually Impaired Opening – 26/27 School Year
Details:
Remote or Onsite Position
Full-Time or Part-Time based on district needs
K–12 Caseload
Provide specialized instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired
Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
Teach Braille and other literacy skills as appropriate
Adapt instructional materials and classroom activities to meet students’ visual needs
Support the use of assistive technology and low-vision devices
Assess student progress and maintain accurate documentation
Collaborate with teachers, staff, parents, and administration
Participate in IEP meetings and help develop appropriate accommodations
Support students’ independence, accessibility, and academic success
Documentation and more!
Education and Certification:
Valid New York State certification in Teaching Students Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired (All Grades), or eligibility to obtain the appropriate certification
Bachelor’s degree or higher, with the required teacher-preparation coursework for New York State certification
Specialized training or experience in visual impairment education preferred
Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and accessible instructional strategies preferred
School-based experience preferred, but qualified new graduates are encouraged to apply
Virtual/teletherapy experience preferred for remote assignments
