Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid teaching certificate with current VI (Visually Impaired) endorsement, or a master’s degree in a related field
- Previous experience teaching Braille is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with the unique learning requirements of visually impaired children
- Proven track record instructing at the elementary level
- Exceptional organization and communication skills
- Adaptability to a variety of instructional settings due to the itinerant nature of the role
- Reliable transportation required to serve multiple locations
Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and group instruction to visually impaired elementary students, utilizing adaptive materials and Braille when appropriate
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, and parents to support student learning and foster independence
- Develop and implement individualized education plans in compliance with district guidelines
- Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies as necessary
- Advocate for the needs of visually impaired students within the school environment
- Maintain accurate documentation and participate in IEP meetings as required
