Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution; Master’s in Special Education is preferred
- Valid Massachusetts DESE certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (Vision Impairment license)
- SEI Endorsement
- Strong understanding of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), including expertise in compensatory/access skills, assistive technology, and collaborating with Orientation and Mobility (O&M) professionals
- Proficiency with Braille, large print, tactile graphics, and low-vision devices is highly advantageous
- Experience delivering vision services within diverse educational settings is preferred
Responsibilities:
- Conduct functional vision assessments (FVAs), learning media assessments (LMAs), and vision-specific evaluations to support eligibility decisions, IEP development, and to tailor service delivery for each student
- Work directly with preschool through high school students across multiple school sites to teach ECC components and ensure equitable access to learning materials and technology
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including families, educators, and related service providers—to develop and implement effective strategies and accommodations
- Support inclusion by modifying curriculum materials, recommending adaptive tools, and providing ongoing consultation and training for staff
- Monitor student progress and maintain diligent records to ensure comprehensive, compliant service delivery
