Teacher for the Visually Impaired | Caliente, California
Make an impact supporting a high school student as a Braille instructor in a rewarding contract position starting August 2026 and extending through June 2027. This is a unique opportunity to work one-on-one with a student who is low cognition and actively learning braille, allowing you to make a measurable difference every day. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, patient, and experienced with braille—whether as a certified teacher for the visually impaired, braillist, paraprofessional, or skilled individual (SLI) with expertise teaching braille.
Key Qualifications:
- Fluency in braille, with a strong grasp of both reading and writing
- Previous experience teaching braille or working with visually impaired students highly desirable
- Background as a teacher for the visually impaired, braillist, paraprofessional, or SLI preferred
- Compassion and adaptability to effectively support a high school student with low cognition
- Ability to commit to a consistent weekly schedule for the duration of the school year
Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated 1:1 instruction in braille to a high school male student
- Develop and implement individualized learning strategies that support braille literacy
- Collaborate with school staff and special education teams to ensure student progress
- Track milestones and adapt instruction to meet evolving needs
- Foster a positive, encouraging classroom environment that supports learning at the student’s pace
This contract role offers up to 30 hours per week, running with the school calendar from August 13th, 2026, through June 11th, 2027.
