Make a difference in the lives of students by supporting their educational journey as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired on a contract basis. Located just outside Chicago, this opportunity offers a flexible schedule and the chance to provide individualized instruction to a small caseload. You'll play a critical role in helping two students develop essential skills and achieve their academic goals, including some orientation and mobility support.
Key Qualifications:
- Current certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired
- Experience working with school-aged children who are visually impaired
- Familiarity with a range of adaptive technologies and materials
- Ability to assess and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Experience or comfort providing some orientation and mobility instruction is a plus
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and related service providers
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to two students approximately 15–16 hours per week
- Develop, adapt, and implement instructional strategies tailored to individual needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure accessibility of curriculum materials
- Support orientation and mobility needs as they arise, either directly or in partnership with mobility specialists
- Monitor student progress and maintain detailed documentation
- Participate in IEP meetings, offering insights and recommendations regarding students’ needs and progress
