Qualifications & Experience:
- Certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired or comparable credential
- Previous experience working with students with visual impairments required
- Strong ability to adapt instructional materials and techniques for accessibility
- Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility strategies
- Effective communication skills for collaboration with administration, staff, and families
- Flexibility to adapt to evolving student needs and schedules
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans tailored to the student’s requirements
- Provide direct instruction in core academic content and expanded core curriculum as needed
- Collaborate with general education teachers to modify classroom materials and activities
- Facilitate access to assistive technology and train student in its use
- Serve as an advocate for the student to promote inclusion and equal access within the school environment
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and adapt strategies as necessary
- Communicate regularly with parents and school team to review goals and progress
