Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Des Plaines, IL

This contract opportunity offers a dynamic, itinerant role serving elementary through middle school students in a supportive and collaborative environment. The position is part-time and onsite, allowing you to work directly with diverse learners and dedicated teams from the beginning of the school year through the end of the academic calendar.
Key Qualifications:
- Active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) endorsement required
- Experience teaching students with visual impairments preferred
- Comfortable working with a range of ages, from younger elementary to middle school
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to travel between sites as this is an itinerant position
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction to visually impaired students, tailoring methods to meet IEP goals
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to adapt curriculum and materials
- Utilize assistive technology and specialized materials to enhance students’ learning opportunities
- Conduct assessments and contribute to IEP meetings, documenting progress and recommending interventions
- Provide guidance and resources to school staff and families to foster an inclusive educational environment
- Travel between school locations as required by caseload
