Teacher for the Visually Impaired | Des Plaines, Illinois

Make a meaningful impact in the lives of students as a dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Lake County. This contract position offers the opportunity to support children from early childhood through 12th grade across a diverse caseload of approximately 12 to 18 students. You will collaborate with school staff and travel to multiple districts, ensuring that each learner receives individualized instruction and access to critical resources.
Desired Skills & Certifications:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with TVI endorsement
- Proven experience teaching or supporting students with visual impairments
- Ability to adapt instructional materials and create accessible curriculum
- Strong communication and advocacy skills when collaborating with families and school teams
- Efficient time management and organizational abilities, especially when managing itinerant schedules
- Familiarity with assistive technologies for students with visual impairments is highly preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ individual vision needs and develop appropriate learning goals
- Deliver direct instruction and consultative services across a spectrum of grade levels
- Modify and adapt curriculum materials to support access and engagement
- Train staff and family members on the use of assistive tools and techniques
- Prepare progress reports and participate in IEP meetings
- Maintain ongoing communication with all educational partners throughout various districts
- Travel between campuses to provide consistent support to students on your caseload
