Make a meaningful impact by supporting students from early childhood through 12th grade as a dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Lake County. This contract role involves traveling between multiple districts, providing specialized instruction and resources to a caseload of approximately 12-18 students. You’ll play a vital part in empowering students with visual impairments to access curriculum and achieve their academic potential.
Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a TVI EDU Certification
- Experience working with students who are visually impaired
- Strong understanding of assistive technology and braille, as well as adaptive strategies for diverse learners
- Ability to collaborate effectively with general education staff, families, and related service providers
- Excellent organizational skills and adaptability, especially when traveling between school sites
Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction tailored to students’ visual needs, spanning early childhood to high school
- Assess and monitor student progress, developing and adjusting IEP goals and accommodations
- Support teachers and staff by recommending accessible materials and classroom modifications
- Serve as a valuable resource for families, providing strategies and information to support student success at home and in school
- Travel to various districts within Lake County on a regular schedule
