Teacher for the Visually Impaired | Portsmouth, Virginia
Make a meaningful impact by supporting students with visual impairments in an educational setting near Portsmouth, VA. This position offers the opportunity to work as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) on a full-time, contract basis. The assignment starts as soon as possible and continues through the end of the school year, giving you the chance to collaborate with a committed team and provide specialized instruction to students who need it most.
Key Qualifications:
- Active Virginia licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Prior experience working with visually impaired students in a school-based setting preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
- Ability to develop and adapt instructional materials for individual student needs
- Familiarity with assistive technologies and Braille instruction is a plus
- Passion for advocacy and fostering independence in students
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and educational support to a caseload of 14 students with visual impairments
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's abilities and goals
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, families, and other education professionals
- Assess student progress and adapt instructional strategies as needed
- Support students in accessing the general curriculum and developing life skills
- Advocate for accessibility and accommodations in the school environment
