Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Special Education or a related field
  • Experience working within school environments, especially with visually impaired students
  • Strong communication and advocacy skills with students, families, and staff
  • Familiarity with Braille instruction and adaptive technologies
  • Ability to create individualized educational plans (IEPs) and track student progress

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and adapt instructional materials and lesson plans to ensure full access to curriculum
  • Teach and assess Braille, orientation and mobility skills, assistive technology, and daily living skills as needed
  • Partner with classroom teachers, specialists, and families to support inclusive education
  • Monitor student progress, maintain records, and participate in IEP meetings
  • Advocate for the needs of visually impaired students and promote accessibility within the school community
  • Encourage student independence, self-advocacy, and engagement in all aspects of school life
