Remote Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) - Wyoming
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education with an emphasis/specialization in Visual Impairments from an accredited institution
• Active Wyoming Educator License with a Visual Impairment (K–12) endorsement issued by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB)
• Proficiency in Braille literacy instruction, assistive technology for the visually impaired, and functional vision evaluations
• Minimum of 2+ years of experience (school-based and/or teletherapy preferred)
• Familiarity with Wyoming special education rules, IEP development, and the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC)
• Strong instructional, organization, and communication skills
• Comfortable using telepractice platforms, screen readers, and remote learning tools
Key Responsibilities Assessment & Instruction
• Conduct virtual Functional Vision Assessments (FVAs), Learning Media Assessments (LMAs), and assistive technology evaluations
• Deliver individualized, direct virtual instruction and consultative support tailored to students who are blind or visually impaired
• Teach and reinforce the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), including Braille reading/writing, visual efficiency, and compensatory access skills
• Monitor student progress and modify educational materials to facilitate access to the general education curriculum
Collaboration & Support
• Collaborate closely with general and special education teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, and Orientation and Mobility (O&M) specialists
• Provide actionable recommendations for classroom accommodations, modified media, digital accessibility, and tactile resources
• Participate actively in virtual IEP team meetings, multidisciplinary evaluation reviews, and student planning conferences
Documentation & Compliance
• Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely documentation of direct service logs, progress reports, and IEP goal updates
• Ensure all evaluations and instructional services strictly comply with Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) standards, local district policies, and IDEA mandates
• Prepare comprehensive evaluation reports and state-required compliance paperwork
Technology & Digital Accessibility
• Utilize virtual learning platforms, digital magnification software, screen-reading tools, and accessible online media
• Convert instructional and assessment materials into accessible formats (digital Braille files, large print, tactile graphics, audio)
• Guide onsite school facilitators and families with setting up and troubleshooting assistive vision technology
Advocacy & Empowerment
• Empower students to develop self-advocacy skills, understand their visual diagnoses, and independently navigate assistive tools
• Provide specialized training and resources to school staff regarding visual impairment accommodations and inclusive classroom practices
