TVI - Waukegan, Illinois
Make a meaningful impact as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, working across multiple districts in Lake County. This flexible contract opportunity involves serving a diverse caseload of approximately 12 to 18 students from early childhood through 12th grade. You’ll travel to various locations, delivering vital educational services to students who are blind or visually impaired—helping them achieve their full potential in inclusive learning environments.
Key Qualifications & Requirements:
- Active Illinois TVI EDU Certification and Professional Educator License (PEL)
- Experience with a range of ages and grade levels, from early learners to high school students
- Strong skills in adapting curriculum, mobility instruction, and using assistive technology for visually impaired students
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with students, families, and school teams
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between sites as part of your weekly routine
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s strengths and needs
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, and adaptive technologies
- Consult with classroom teachers and support staff to foster an inclusive experience
- Monitor student progress, complete reporting, and participate in IEP meetings
- Empower students to build confidence and independence in academic and functional skills
