Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Anchorage, AK

As a contract teacher specializing in visual impairment, you’ll collaborate closely with students, teachers, and families to foster independence, boost learning outcomes, and promote inclusivity throughout the school community.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

• Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
• Demonstrated experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments or blindness
• Proficiency in Braille and familiarity with assistive technologies for the visually impaired
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
• Ability to create and adapt individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Experience providing training and resources to school staff and families is highly valued

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement individualized educational strategies and adapt curriculum materials for students with visual impairments
• Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, use of assistive devices, and compensatory skills
• Collaborate with classroom educators, therapists, and support staff to ensure all students’ needs are met
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contribute to IEP development, and track student progress
• Deliver training and consultation for teachers, staff, and families on visual impairment best practices and assistive technologies
• Advocate for students by ensuring accessibility and accommodations are being met in the school environment
