Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and state certification for teaching the visually impaired
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education environments
  • In-depth knowledge of assistive technology for visually impaired students
  • Strong communication, organization, and analytical decision-making abilities
  • Ability to provide Braille instruction; orientation/mobility training a plus
  • Valid Louisiana DOE Certification
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel to multiple sites daily
  • Successful completion of drug screening and fingerprinting required

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction and support to visually impaired students (age group/assignment varies)
  • Liaise with general educators to adapt instructional materials into accessible formats
  • Supply specialized resources and in-service training to school staff
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and district leadership
  • Attend meetings across campuses and fulfill related duties as assigned
