Key Responsibilities:
- Travel between assigned campuses daily to provide direct services for students with visual impairments
- Assess and support each student’s unique educational needs, frequently collaborating with classroom teachers and staff
- Facilitate the provision and adaptation of specialized materials, including Braille and large print resources
- Offer in-service training for school personnel, equipping staff with strategies to ensure accessible learning environments
- Maintain proactive communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and internal teams
- Deliver orientation and mobility training as needed and keep detailed, organized student records
- Utilize and train others in the latest assistive technology designed for the visually impaired
- Execute additional duties at the discretion of program leadership
Desired Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree and certification to teach students with visual impairments (Louisiana DOE Cert)
- At least 3 years of experience in special, elementary, and/or secondary education
- Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities for motivating and inspiring change within diverse settings
- Skill in Braille instruction and application of assistive technology
- Familiarity with orientation and mobility training is a plus
- Excellent analytic, organizational, and multitasking skills
- Reliable transportation and mobility to reach multiple locations
- Must complete district-required drug screening and fingerprinting
