This rewarding contract opportunity offers the chance to provide direct and indirect services as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, working throughout area schools for the 2026-2027 academic year. You’ll be an essential resource, collaborating with educational teams, families, and the Louisiana Department of Education to empower students and ensure access to a high-quality education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction and support for visually impaired students across assigned sites.
- Travel between multiple schools daily to facilitate services and address student needs.
- Deliver engaging in-service training for school personnel on best practices and available supports.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt and prepare reading materials in accessible formats, including Braille.
- Procure appropriate textbooks, technology, and learning materials.
- Maintain regular communication with general educators and appropriate agencies.
- Utilize and train others in assistive technology purposely designed for visually impaired learners.
- Offer instruction in Braille and, when possible, orientation and mobility skills.
- Complete documentation and other tasks as assigned by the Director of IDEA.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and active Louisiana DOE certification in visual impairment required.
- Minimum three years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education.
- Demonstrated expertise in assistive technology, Braille instruction, and data-driven decision-making.
- Familiarity with orientation and mobility training, preferred.
- Exceptional interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to independently travel between worksites.
- Completion of drug screening and district fingerprinting required.
