Teacher for the Visually Impaired | New Orleans, Louisiana

This full-time, itinerant role focuses on providing expert guidance, direct instruction, and essential services across multiple school sites, ensuring visually impaired students receive comprehensive support and access to education from August 2026 through May 2027.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and a valid Louisiana Department of Education certification for teaching the visually impaired
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings
- Ability to travel daily between multiple school locations and provide own transportation
- Expertise in assistive technology for visually impaired students and proficiency in Braille instruction
- Strong communication skills in varied environments, with the ability to inspire and collaborate with staff
- Skilled at analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data to inform teaching practices and recommendations
- Demonstrated professionalism and strong organizational abilities, managing multiple priorities
- Familiarity with orientation and mobility training, preferred
- Required to pass additional district fingerprinting and drug screening
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instructional services to visually impaired students and coordinate special textbooks, materials, and classroom supports
- Provide in-service training for school personnel to foster inclusive environments and practices
- Maintain regular communication with teachers, families, and the Louisiana Department of Education
- Adapt reading materials and resources to meet individual student needs
- Support and advise on best practices in assistive technology and accommodate evolving student requirements
- Carry out additional duties as directed by the Director of IDEA
