Make a difference as a dedicated educator supporting students with visual impairments across schools in the New Orleans area. This full-time contract role spans the 2026–2027 academic year, offering the opportunity to travel between multiple sites and collaborate with teachers, administrators, and state education professionals to ensure exceptional learning experiences for visually impaired students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction and direct service to students with visual impairments across various grade levels
- Travel daily to assigned schools within the district, adapting to itinerant needs
- Facilitate and interpret educational services to meet student needs, including assistive technology integration and Braille instruction
- Coordinate with general education teachers to prepare reading materials in suitable formats
- Acquire specialized textbooks and adaptive materials for student use
- Provide in-service training and consultation on best practices for supporting visually impaired students
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and internal leadership teams
- Complete required documentation and fulfill any additional duties assigned by the Director of IDEA
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and active Louisiana Department of Education certification for teaching the visually impaired
- Minimum three years of experience in elementary, secondary, and/or special education environments
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities
- Demonstrated expertise with assistive technology and experience providing Braille instruction
- Familiarity with orientation and mobility training is a plus
- Must have reliable transportation to commute to multiple school locations daily
- Must successfully complete a district drug screen and fingerprint background check
