Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (required)
- Active Louisiana Department of Education Certification
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education roles
- In-depth knowledge of assistive technology specific to visual impairments; experience training both students and educators
- Ability to provide Braille instruction to students
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Familiarity with orientation and mobility training is a plus
- Must meet time-sensitive credentialing requirements, including drug screening and district fingerprinting
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel between school sites daily
Primary Responsibilities:
- Travel to assigned school sites to deliver itinerant TVI services to students in grades K-12
- Facilitate and coordinate special materials and textbooks for visually impaired students
- Provide in-service training for school personnel on effective supports and accommodations
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers to ensure accessible learning materials
- Maintain effective communication with the state Department of Education and district personnel
- Offer direct instruction in Braille and assistive technology to students
- Adapt and respond flexibly to evolving caseload needs and assignments
