Teacher of the Visually Impaired in New Orleans, LA

This contract opportunity offers a dynamic, itinerant role providing essential direct services to visually impaired students across multiple school locations for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and current Louisiana Department of Education certification for teaching the visually impaired
- At least 3 years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings
- Demonstrated expertise with assistive technology, including providing Braille instruction
- Exceptional communication skills with an ability to inspire, motivate, and provide effective training to other educators
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities using both quantitative and qualitative data
- Professional approach to managing multiple priorities and delivering high performance under challenging circumstances
- Preferred: Familiarity with orientation and mobility training
Essential Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instructional services to visually impaired students, supporting individualized education plans
- Travel daily between school sites to facilitate services and consult with school teams
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, securing and preparing specialized textbooks and materials
- Offer in-service training to enhance staff knowledge and ensure student access to appropriate supports
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and district leadership
- Complete all additional assignments as directed by the Director of IDEA
Physical requirements include the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 10 pounds. Reliable transportation and mobility to access multiple work locations are a must.
This full-time, 35-hour-per-week position starts in August and runs through May, providing an opportunity to make a difference for students throughout the academic year.
