This contract position offers the rewarding opportunity to serve students near New Orleans, LA, providing specialized instruction and support across multiple school locations throughout the school year—August 3, 2026, to May 27, 2027. With a 35-hour work week on an itinerant schedule, you'll have the chance to collaborate with both students and staff, ensuring each visually impaired student receives exceptional educational opportunities.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and valid visually impaired certification required
- Active Louisiana DOE certification
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings
- Deep understanding of assistive technologies for the visually impaired; ability to train others
- Skilled in Braille instruction; familiarity with orientation and mobility preferred
- Exceptional communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Demonstrates professionalism, independence, and disciplined decision-making
- Must complete district drug screening and fingerprinting requirements
Primary Responsibilities:
- Travel daily to multiple school sites within the district to facilitate services for visually impaired students
- Provide direct instruction and support, adapting materials and strategies to individual needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop accessible learning resources
- Serve as an informational resource for staff through in-service training and ongoing support
- Acquire and distribute specialized textbooks and materials
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and district leadership
- Additional duties as assigned by the Director of IDEA
