This itinerant opportunity involves delivering specialized instruction and advocacy across multiple school sites, ensuring every visually impaired student is equipped for success.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and current Louisiana Department of Education teaching certification for visually impaired students
- At least three years of experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings
- Extensive knowledge of assistive technology for the visually impaired, with experience in training students and staff
- Ability to deliver Braille instruction and familiarity with orientation and mobility training (preferred)
- Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Proven record of independently navigating complex challenges and supporting student achievement
- Strong organizational skills, professionalism, and the capacity to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
- Must be able to provide own reliable transportation for daily travel across sites
- Willingness to complete district-mandated credentialing, drug screen, and fingerprint background checks
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct services to visually impaired students across designated campuses as an itinerant teacher
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers to adapt instructional materials and ensure an inclusive classroom environment
- Assess student needs and interpret findings for school staff, students, and families
- Facilitate in-service trainings to build awareness and capacity among school personnel
- Obtain and prepare specialized textbooks and learning materials in appropriate formats
- Maintain open communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and district leadership
- Support the Director of IDEA with other responsibilities, as needed
