Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree plus certification in visual impairment required
- Valid Louisiana Department of Education certification
- At least three years of experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings
- Proficiency in providing Braille instruction and use of assistive technology tailored for visually impaired students
- Outstanding communication skills, fostering positive relationships across school teams
- Ability to inspire and train both students and teachers in best practices for visual impairment support
- Analytical mindset, adept at leveraging both data and observed feedback to drive recommendations
- Highly organized, independently motivated, skilled at managing multiple priorities in fast-paced settings
- Familiarity with orientation and mobility training (preferred)
- Successful completion of district-required drug screening and fingerprinting
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct educational services to visually impaired students across multiple school sites around the New Orleans area (itinerant role)
- Interpret and facilitate the needs and progress of visually impaired students
- Coordinate the provision of accessible textbooks and specialized instructional materials
- Maintain open communication with classroom teachers to ensure materials are prepared in accessible formats
- Offer in-service training to staff, promoting best practices and accessibility awareness schoolwide
- Serve as a liaison between schools and the Louisiana Department of Education
- Execute additional duties as directed by the Director of IDEA
