Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and active Louisiana DOE certification in Visual Impairment required
- Visually impaired teacher certification required
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings
- Proficiency in Braille instruction and assistive technology designed for visually impaired students
- Excellent communication skills; ability to deliver in-service training to school personnel
- Experience inspiring and motivating students and colleagues; strong analytical skills
- Familiarity with orientation and mobility training is a plus
- Must successfully complete district-specific drug screening and fingerprinting
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel between sites daily
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct educational services to students with visual impairments across multiple school locations
- Collaborate with general classroom teachers; facilitate the preparation of accessible materials and textbooks
- Lead in-service training to ensure staff can support visually impaired students effectively
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and other stakeholders
- Support acquisition and implementation of adaptive instructional resources and technology
- Engage in continuous assessment and adjustment of student supports based on data and classroom observation
