Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) required
- Must be a state Certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Experience working directly with school-aged children, particularly in 1:1 or pediatric settings, highly valued
- Skill in developing individualized educational plans and adapting curriculum materials for visually impaired students
- Strong communication abilities for collaborating with staff, families, and allied professionals
- Commitment to maintaining accurate progress records, assessments, and documentation
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct 1:1 instruction to a visually impaired student, ensuring a safe and accessible learning environment
- Design and implement individualized educational programs, tracking measurable progress
- Modify and adapt learning materials to optimize accessibility and engagement
- Consult regularly with general and special education staff, therapists, and families regarding student goals, accommodations, and strategies
- Advocate for the needs of the student within the school community
- Stay current with best practices in visual impairment education and relevant assistive technology
