Ideal Qualifications:

  • Current, active state licensure as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired
  • Proven experience teaching or supporting K-12 students with visual impairments
  • Familiarity with Braille, large print, assistive technology, and other adaptation techniques
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and families
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Adaptable and creative in addressing diverse student needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized instruction to students with visual impairments, tailoring educational materials as needed
  • Assess student abilities, tracking progress towards established goals
  • Consult with general education teachers to modify curriculum, classrooms, and environments for accessibility
  • Provide training and resources to school staff and families on working with visually impaired students
  • Utilize assistive technology and teach students to use it effectively
  • Advocate for the needs of visually impaired students within the school community
