This contract position offers the opportunity to serve K-12 students in an itinerant role, providing specialized instruction and accommodations throughout the district, and is conveniently located within a short drive of Charlotte, NC. Key Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairments or eligibility for certification
- Experience working with K-12 students, ideally in a school setting
- Strong understanding of specialized instructional strategies and assistive technology for visually impaired students
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, families, and support staff
- Flexibility to travel between schools within the district
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments, ensuring access to the curriculum and learning environment
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs
- Adapt instructional materials and utilize assistive technology to support student independence
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and related service providers to foster an inclusive atmosphere
- Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments
- Offer professional guidance and training to school staff and families on best practices
