Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid DOE certification required
- Experience working as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Proficient in Braille instruction and using assistive technology for students who are blind or have low vision
- Familiarity with the Federal Quota program for accessing assistive technology is a plus
- Ability to support K-12 students equitably, including both general education and special education settings
- Experience completing IEP documentation and participating in multidisciplinary meetings (working knowledge of the TN Pulse platform preferred)
- Flexibility and strong organizational abilities for itinerant service delivery
- Must be able to complete fingerprinting as part of credentialing
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instructional services and consultation for K-12 students with visual impairments
- Deliver individualized and group instruction in Braille and assistive technology, maximizing student independence
- Travel between assigned schools with geographically organized itineraries
- Collaborate actively with general educators, special educators, and teams to implement and review IEPs
- Monitor progress, collect data, and adjust instructional approaches as needed
- Support district-wide efforts to enable access to educational materials via Chromebooks and additional adaptive technology
