Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification with endorsement in Visual Impairment or eligibility for endorsement
- Proven experience teaching individuals with visual impairments preferred
- Knowledge of Braille instruction, assistive technology, and adaptive tools
- Strong commitment to collaborative work with educators, therapists, and families
- Ability to assess student needs and develop effective Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction to students with visual impairments, ensuring lessons are accessible and engaging
- Adapt curriculum materials and provide instruction in Braille, large print, and the use of tactile graphics
- Teach daily living skills and orientation/mobility training as needed
- Partner with classroom teachers, related service providers, and parents to support each student's success
- Maintain accurate records, monitor progress, and contribute to IEP meetings
- Advocate for student accommodations, promote inclusivity, and offer guidance on best practices for accessibility
- Stay up to date on developments in visual impairment education and participate in professional learning opportunities
