Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired
- Previous experience working with children or youth with visual impairments in a school setting
- Strong understanding of specialized instructional techniques and assistive technology
- Ability to develop and adapt individualized educational plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with families, staff, and related service providers
- Passion for advocating for accessibility and student success
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments both individually and in small groups
- Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs; help determine and implement appropriate accommodations
- Consult with classroom teachers and school staff to adapt curriculum and learning environments
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals, ensuring compliance with educational standards
- Guide students in the use of assistive devices and technology to foster independence
- Facilitate effective communication between families, school teams, and community resources
- Maintain thorough and timely documentation related to progress and services
