Qualifications and Experience:
- Certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education, Visual Impairment, or related field
- Prior experience working with students who are visually impaired in school settings preferred
- Proficiency in Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive educational materials
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with faculty, families, and support staff
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Compassion, patience, and adaptability in diverse classroom environments
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ visual abilities and educational needs in collaboration with other professionals
- Design and deliver individualized instruction using appropriate adaptations and materials
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, and use of assistive technology
- Consult with classroom teachers and staff on strategies and accommodations for inclusion
- Monitor and document student progress; participate in IEP meetings and reviews
- Support transitions and promote student independence and self-advocacy skills
- Offer guidance and resources to families to reinforce skill development at home
