Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) | Des Moines, Iowa

Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Understanding of braille and assistive technologies for visually impaired students
- Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with educators, students, and parents
- Familiarity with current best practices in special education and vision services
Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ specific visual needs and instructional requirements
- Adapt curriculum materials, utilizing braille, large print, tactile graphics, and technology as appropriate
- Provide direct instruction tailored to individual learning objectives and developmental levels
- Support classroom teachers by modeling strategies and recommending accommodations to promote full participation
- Consult and communicate regularly with families, therapists, and related service providers
- Monitor and document progress, updating IEPs and reporting on student development
- Advocate for students' access to resources and inclusive learning opportunities
