Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Des Moines, IA

Qualifications and Experience

• State certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility for certification
• Experience working with children and adolescents with visual impairments preferred
• Proficient in creating and adapting accessible instructional materials (Braille, large print, tactile, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of assistive technology for visually impaired students
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to travel between sites as needed

Key Responsibilities

• Assess student needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Deliver direct instruction in the use of adaptive tools, Braille literacy, orientation and mobility
• Consult with general education teachers to support classroom inclusion
• Provide training and support to staff and families on best practices for supporting visually impaired students
• Monitor and document student progress, adjusting strategies as needed
• Maintain compliance with all state and federal special education regulations
