From transcribing braille for Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and students to facilitating access to educational materials, you’ll ensure all learners have the tools they need to succeed.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid professional licensure required
- Previous experience as an Assistive Technology Specialist within a school or similar setting
- Proficient in braille transcription for educational use
- Strong background working with students from Kindergarten through Grade 12
- Ability to provide one-on-one support tailored to individual student needs
- Effective communicator with teachers, students, and support staff
- Organized, self-directed, and adaptable in a fast-paced school environment
Primary Responsibilities:
- Transcribe textbooks, assignments, and other educational content into braille for visually impaired students and TVIs
- Deliver individualized assistive technology support and instruction to K-12 students
- Collaborate with educators to assess, recommend, and implement technology solutions
- Document progress and maintain accurate student records
- Train staff and students in the use of assistive devices and software as needed
- Stay current with best practices and emerging trends in assistive technology
