Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with children and adolescents with visual impairments
- Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment
- Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills
- Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ visual abilities and needs in conjunction with school staff and families
- Create and adapt curriculum materials to be accessible, utilizing Braille, large print, and specialized technology
- Provide direct instruction in academic, daily living, and orientation/mobility skills
- Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure inclusive classroom support
- Serve as an advocate and resource for families and staff about visual impairments and available accommodations
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed
