Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid state-issued teaching certification for visually impaired students (or eligibility to obtain)
- Previous experience working with K-12 students who are visually impaired, preferably in a school-based setting
- Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation & mobility techniques
- Excellent communication, advocacy, and organization skills
- A collaborative mindset for working with general educators, families, and support staff
- Passion for helping students reach their fullest potential
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to visually impaired students, adapting lessons to accommodate individual needs
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Consult and collaborate with teachers, school staff, and families to provide resources and recommendations
- Assess students’ progress and update documentation as required
- Guide the use of adaptive devices and technology for student access and engagement
- Foster an inclusive, positive, and encouraging classroom environment
