Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI), or eligibility for state licensure
- Proven experience working with students who have visual impairments, preferably in a school setting
- Strong understanding of braille instruction, adaptive technology, and accessible curriculum design
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers
- Demonstrated ability to adapt instructional strategies to individual student needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, using specialized teaching methods and materials
- Assess students' abilities and develop individualized educational plans (IEPs) in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams
- Support classroom teachers by offering strategies and resources to ensure students have equitable access to the curriculum
- Integrate assistive technology and braille literacy into daily instruction
- Conduct ongoing progress monitoring and participate in IEP meetings to review student goals
- Serve as an advocate for students and educate staff and families about visual impairments
