Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairment or the ability to obtain appropriate credentials for Texas schools
- Previous experience working with school-aged children as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Strong understanding of braille, orientation and mobility, and adaptive technology for visual impairments
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills
- A creative and resourceful approach to individualized instruction
Responsibilities:
- Assess student needs and develop customized Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals related to vision impairment
- Deliver direct instruction and provide consultative support to educators and families
- Adapt curriculum materials to accessible formats, including braille and large print
- Recommend and implement assistive technology to enhance student learning
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to monitor progress and adjust interventions as needed
- Offer training for teachers and staff on strategies, devices, and inclusion techniques
