Qualifications & Experience:
- Current credential or certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Previous experience working with visually impaired students, preferably in school settings
- Strong understanding of braille instruction, adaptive technology, and accessible curriculum development
- Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including teachers, therapists, and families
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Organizational skills to manage caseloads and maintain accurate records
- Flexibility and adaptability to varied educational situations
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assess and identify students’ unique needs through individual evaluations and ongoing observation
- Develop and implement customized instructional plans, focusing on accessibility and engagement
- Teach braille, orientation and mobility skills, and adaptive technology to empower student independence
- Collaborate with general education staff to modify classroom materials and ensure curriculum accessibility
- Provide direct support and consultation to classroom teachers and parents on best practices for inclusion
- Participate in IEP meetings, sharing insights on student progress and adapting goals as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation on student services, progress, and compliance with educational standards
