Qualifications & Experience:

  • Current credential or certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Previous experience working with visually impaired students, preferably in school settings
  • Strong understanding of braille instruction, adaptive technology, and accessible curriculum development
  • Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including teachers, therapists, and families
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organizational skills to manage caseloads and maintain accurate records
  • Flexibility and adaptability to varied educational situations

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assess and identify students’ unique needs through individual evaluations and ongoing observation
  • Develop and implement customized instructional plans, focusing on accessibility and engagement
  • Teach braille, orientation and mobility skills, and adaptive technology to empower student independence
  • Collaborate with general education staff to modify classroom materials and ensure curriculum accessibility
  • Provide direct support and consultation to classroom teachers and parents on best practices for inclusion
  • Participate in IEP meetings, sharing insights on student progress and adapting goals as needed
  • Maintain accurate documentation on student services, progress, and compliance with educational standards
