Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Strong background working with K-12 students who have visual impairments
  • Proficiency in braille reading and production
  • Experience or willingness to provide direct instruction, consultative services, and orientation & mobility
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with families, staff, and other professionals
  • Creative approach to adapting curriculum and materials for varied student needs
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Commitment to fostering inclusive and accessible learning environments

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction and support to visually impaired students across grade levels
  • Conduct consultations with educational teams and families to address student needs
  • Produce accessible materials, including braille transcriptions and tactile resources
  • Provide or coordinate orientation and mobility training tailored to each student
  • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as needed
  • Participate in IEP meetings to share insights and advocate for student accommodations
  • Stay updated on best practices and new technology to enhance learning experiences
