Qualifications/Desired Experience:
- Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience or training working with K-12 students who have visual impairments
- Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technologies, and adaptive devices
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
- Comfort adapting lesson plans and instructional strategies to meet individual student needs
- Organized, proactive, and passionate about advocacy for students with vision loss
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s abilities and goals
- Deliver direct instruction in academic content, Braille literacy, use of low-vision aids, and orientation and mobility skills
- Collaborate with special education teams, parents, and general education teachers to foster inclusive learning environments
- Conduct assessments to monitor progress and make data-driven recommendations
- Coach and support staff on strategies for educating students with visual impairments
- Document all student progress and maintain accurate records in compliance with district and legal requirements
