Telehealth Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) - Colorado
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education with a focus or concentration in Visual Impairments
• Active Colorado Special Education Specialist: Teacher of the Visually Impaired (Ages Birth–21) endorsement issued by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE)
• Proficiency in Braille instruction, assistive technology for the visually impaired, and functional vision evaluations
• Minimum of 2+ years of experience (school-based and/or teletherapy preferred)
• Experience with IEP development, Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), and virtual specialized instruction is a plus
• Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
• Comfortable using teletherapy platforms, digital accessibility software, and remote learning technology
Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Instruction
• Conduct virtual Functional Vision Assessments (FVAs), Learning Media Assessments (LMAs), and evaluate assistive technology needs
• Provide direct specialized virtual instruction and consultation tailored to students with visual impairments
• Teach and reinforce the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), including assistive technology skills, visual efficiency, and compensatory strategies
• Monitor and document student progress, adapting instructional materials to ensure full access to the curriculum
Collaboration & Support
• Collaborate with general education teachers, special education teams, parents, and Orientation and Mobility (O&M) specialists
• Recommend and guide classroom accommodations, large-print materials, digital media adaptations, and tactile resources
• Participate actively in virtual IEP meetings, eligibility determinations, and triennial reviews
Documentation & Compliance
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of direct service hours, progress reports, and IEP goal updates
• Ensure all evaluations and service delivery align strictly with CDE guidelines, district policies, and federal special education mandates
• Prepare detailed evaluation summaries and state-required compliance paperwork
Technology & Digital Accessibility
• Utilize virtual platforms, screen-reading software, digital magnifiers, and specialized tools to deliver accessible remote instruction
• Adapt printed and digital educational materials into accessible formats (embossed braille files, digital audio, large print)
• Support families and local school staff with setting up and troubleshooting assistive technology tools
Advocacy & Empowerment
• Guide students in developing self-advocacy skills, understanding their visual conditions, and navigating accessible environments
• Provide training and resources to school staff regarding best practices for supporting visually impaired learners in inclusive settings

• Compensation for both Direct & Indirect Service Hours
• Estimated Pay Range: $40 – $50+ / hr (commensurate with experience, district budget, and candidate fit)
