School Based Remote Teacher of the Visually Impaired - Washington
Qualifications • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, Visual Impairments, or a related field • Active Washington State Teaching Certificate with a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments endorsement (issued by OSPI) • Proficiency in Braille instruction, assistive technology, and low-vision accessibility modifications • Minimum of 2+ years of experience (school-based and/or teletherapy preferred) • Experience with IEP development and virtual specialized instruction is a plus • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills • Comfortable using teletherapy platforms and technology
Key Responsibilities Assessment & Intervention • Provide virtual direct specialized instruction and consultative services to students with visual impairments • Develop and implement individualized accommodation plans and IEP goals in a remote setting • Provide direct teletherapy services, teach Braille reading/writing virtually, and track student progress • Use data to guide instructional decisions and adjust accessibility interventions as needed
Collaboration & Support • Work closely with classroom teachers, parents, and school staff to support student access to the curriculum • Provide guidance and strategies for materials adaptation in home and classroom settings • Participate in virtual IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions
Documentation & Compliance • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services, progress, and IEP goals • Ensure services meet state, district, and federal guidelines • Complete reports, evaluations, and progress documentation as required
Technology & Teletherapy Tools • Utilize virtual platforms and digital tools to deliver engaging, accessible instruction sessions • Adapt materials, electronic documents, and methods for an effective online learning environment • Troubleshoot basic tech issues and support families with low-vision or screen-reading platform use
Advocacy & Education • Support students in accessing appropriate accommodations and assistive technology • Provide education and resources to families and school teams regarding visual impairment strategies
