Teacher of the Visually Impaired in West Chester, PA
Make an impact in the lives of students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in the greater West Chester area. This full-time contract opportunity is ideal for compassionate educators committed to supporting school-aged learners with visual impairments. You’ll work 37.5 hours per week in an itinerant capacity, providing specialized instruction to students across multiple school sites within a supportive countywide team.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivering instruction tailored to meet the individual needs of visually impaired students in various school settings
- Collaborating with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to ensure accessible curriculum and inclusive environments
- Conducting functional vision assessments and making recommendations for accommodations and assistive technology
- Developing and implementing Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals for each student
- Assisting with orientation and mobility skills as appropriate
- Communicating regularly with families to provide updates on student progress and strategies for support
- Maintaining accurate documentation and progress reports in compliance with district and state guidelines
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, with a focus on Visual Impairment or related field
- Valid Teaching Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) in Pennsylvania or eligible for certification
- Experience working with school-aged students with visual impairments in an educational setting preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between school sites within the county
