Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as an itinerant teacher supporting students with visual impairments across several communities in Central Illinois. In this full-time role, you'll make a meaningful difference by providing essential educational services to students in Bloomington, Normal, El Paso, Downs, Pontiac, LeRoy, and Colfax. This assignment is set to cover a maternity leave for a span of approximately 12 weeks, anticipated from the end of October through mid-February.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility for certification in Illinois
- Experience teaching students with visual impairments across a range of grade levels preferred
- Strong ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, families, and other educators
- Excellent organizational and time management skills for managing multiple caseloads at various locations
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required, as travel between schools is essential
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct and consultative support to students with visual impairments in multiple school settings
- Assess students’ visual abilities and develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Adapt curriculum and instructional materials for accessibility using braille, large print, and assistive technology as needed
- Provide consultation, resources, and training to classroom teachers and staff
- Help foster independence and self-advocacy for students with visual impairments
- Maintain accurate records and communicate progress to both educational teams and families
