Teacher for the Visually Impaired - Cordova, Tennessee
Make a meaningful impact supporting students as a Visually Impaired Teacher in a school-based setting. This contract position offers the chance to work closely with students who are blind or have visual impairments, providing specialized instruction tailored to their unique learning needs. You will collaborate with teachers, families, and support staff to ensure each student’s success and independence in the classroom.
Key experience and qualifications:
- State licensure or certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Proficiency in Braille instruction, assistive technology, adaptive materials, and strategies for visual impairment
- Previous experience in a school environment preferred
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to create and adapt individualized educational plans (IEPs)
- A commitment to advocacy, empowerment, and inclusion
Primary responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments in one-on-one or small group settings
- Create and implement IEPs in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
- Adapt curriculum materials into accessible formats such as Braille, large print, or audio
- Assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed
- Support students in developing daily living skills, orientation and mobility, and self-advocacy
- Consult with teachers, families, and school staff to foster inclusive learning environments
- Stay current on best practices, legal requirements, and technology for the visually impaired
