Key Qualifications:
- Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to become certified
- Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired in an educational setting
- Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Organizational skills and adaptability in a fast-paced classroom environment
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assess student needs and develop tailored instructional plans
- Provide direct and consultative services for students with visual impairments from preschool through high school
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, aides, and related service providers to ensure inclusion and accessibility
- Teach core curriculum content, Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and the use of technology and adaptive devices
- Advocate for student accommodations and appropriate learning materials
- Monitor progress, update documentation, and participate in IEP meetings
- Offer professional guidance and training to staff and families as needed
