An exciting opportunity awaits for a passionate professional skilled in supporting students as a Visually Impaired Teacher. This contract position, located near Nashville, TN, is essential for helping students with visual impairments reach their full potential in a supportive school environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairment or eligibility for certification
- Background in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, across various age groups
- Strong knowledge of assistive technology, Braille, and accessible educational materials
- Excellent organizational, communication, and advocacy skills
- Previous school-based experience is preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments in both individual and small group settings
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers and other specialists to modify curriculum and ensure accessibility
- Evaluate students' abilities using formal and informal assessment tools to inform instructional strategies
- Develop and implement IEPs tailored to students’ unique needs and track progress toward goals
- Offer training, resources, and ongoing consultation to families and school staff
- Support students in developing independence, orientation, and mobility skills
