Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) | El Paso, Illinois
Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students by providing specialized instruction as an itinerant teacher for students with visual impairments. In this dynamic full-time contract role, you will support learners across several Central Illinois communities, including Bloomington, Normal, El Paso, Downs, Pontiac, LeRoy, and Colfax. Your expertise will be vital during a 12-week maternity leave coverage, expected from the end of October through mid-February.
You’ll collaborate with a supportive network of educators, travel between schools, and deliver individualized instruction, empowering students with visual impairments to thrive academically and build confidence.
Qualifications:
- Current certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience creating and adapting curriculum for students with visual impairments
- Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive devices
- Ability to manage a flexible, multi-location schedule and maintain strong communication with school staff and families
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Previous experience in school settings preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments in various school environments
- Assess student needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs) customized to each learner
- Implement specialized instructional strategies—including Braille instruction and adaptive technology use
- Collaborate with general education staff and related service providers to ensure successful student inclusion and progress
- Regularly communicate student progress with families and appropriate educational personnel
- Travel between school locations as required
