Teacher for the Visually Impaired | Elgin, Illinois
Embark on a rewarding contract position supporting students as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist in the greater Elgin, IL area. This opportunity runs from ASAP through mid-December 2026, with the potential to extend to a full academic year. Enjoy a consistent Monday through Friday daytime schedule, with hours from 8:00am to 3:00pm. The role involves collaborating across multiple school buildings, providing services at three locations for TVI and three for O&M, ensuring a dynamic and engaging work environment. Sites and assignments may shift in response to district needs.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Proven background or qualification in Orientation & Mobility (O&M)
- Previous experience working with children or students who are visually impaired
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to interact effectively with staff, families, and students
- Ability to adapt to varied learners and adjust instructional strategies accordingly
- Organized and flexible with the capacity to manage multiple caseloads across various locations
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments in multiple district schools
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Conduct assessments for student visual, orientation, and mobility needs
- Consult and coordinate with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and other related service providers
- Deliver staff training and family consultation as needed to support student success
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services
